Case Background
Sherina was born on the 2nd
of April, 2002 to Mr.Yesukumar and Mrs. Indhumathy. She is first child of the
family. Mr.Yesukumar works as a painter and earns about INR 300 a day. Indhumathy is a housewife. When she was five
years old, Sherina fainted while at school. She was treated at a local clinic
but continued to suffer from frequent headaches and vomiting. The doctors in
the clinic sensed a need for surgery and advised the parents to take their
child to a hospital with advanced facilities. The parents, who come from an
economically poor background feared the expenses they would have to incur for
their child’s treatment.
Ekam’s Involvement
The family finally got to
know of Ekam, through people in their community, and approached us for help. We
validated their family details and referred the case to Kanchi Kamakoti Child
Trust Hospital, located at Nungambakkam, Chennai. She was diagnosed with ethmoid
and maxillary sinusitis. Ethmoid sinusitis refers to an infection in
the ethmoid sinuses which are located near the bridge of our nose. Sinuses are air-filled pockets located
in your skull and facial bones. She was immediately admitted in the hospital
for treatment and underwent a minor surgery. She received five more days of
treatment in the Intensive Care Unit before getting discharged as a healthy
child. Ekam took care of the entire hospitalization and medication costs.
Current Status
Sherina is
now a healthy child and is living happily with her family.
